The One Dexter experience – £3,500 is the flagship option. You reserve one identified Dexter while it is still alive, follow that same animal throughout its life, receive weekly photo or video updates, have direct access to the person managing it, and can visit your Dexter and the land on which it is raised. Your price is locked from reservation, and the experience concludes with a detailed Lifetime Provenance Dossier.

The Whole Dexter option – £2,500 is the simpler whole-animal beef option. You receive the beef from one entire pedigree Dexter, together with a factual provenance record and the same transparency over how it was raised, but without the long-term follow experience and additional One Dexter benefits.

No payment or commitment is required at the interest-registration stage. When One Dexter reservations open, customers choosing the One Dexter experience will have the choice of paying in full or across 12 interest-free monthly payments.

Once a paid One Dexter reservation is confirmed, the agreed £3,500 price will be locked for the life of that reservation.

Customers who choose the Whole Dexter option, rather than the One Dexter experience, will pay the £2,500 purchase price in full.

The first payment is £310 when your reservation is confirmed, followed by 11 monthly payments of £290. The total amount paid is £3,500.

There are no interest charges or additional instalment fees, and your total One Dexter price is locked from the date your reservation is confirmed.

This instalment option applies to the One Dexter experience. Customers choosing the Whole Dexter option will pay the £2,500 purchase price in full.

The beef itself is produced to the same standards. The additional £1,000 reflects the long-term, personalised experience built around one particular animal.

A customer choosing the One Dexter experience follows their animal over approximately two or more years, with weekly photos or videos, ongoing management transparency, direct WhatsApp or Messenger access, a private visit, opportunities to join routine cattle checks or grazing moves when practical, a private digital archive, priority access to future reservations, a locked reservation price and a detailed Lifetime Provenance Dossier.

The One Dexter experience is therefore as much about access, provenance and involvement as it is about the beef itself.

You are reserving the future beef from one specific pedigree Dexter, together with the complete One Dexter experience attached to that animal.

Once your Dexter has been allocated, you will know exactly which animal your beef will come from and will follow that same Dexter throughout its life.

A One Dexter reservation is not legal ownership of the live animal and does not give decision-making rights over its management. Welfare and husbandry decisions always remain with the people responsible for the cattle.

Yes. That is fundamental to both offers.

With the One Dexter experience, the beef you eventually receive will come exclusively from the individual Dexter you have followed throughout its life.

With the Whole Dexter option, you will also receive beef from one entire identified Dexter, rather than beef pooled from different animals.

Customers choosing the One Dexter experience will receive priority choice where several suitable Dexters are available for reservation.

A reservation may sometimes be accepted before a particular animal has been allocated, in which case your Dexter will be confirmed once a suitable animal enters the One Dexter programme.

Both the One Dexter experience and the Whole Dexter option are built around one entire animal rather than Quarter or Half shares. Each Dexter is therefore reserved or sold whole to one customer or household.

You are of course free to share the resulting beef privately with family or friends after delivery, but One Dexter does not divide an individual animal between separate customer purchases.

This applies to customers choosing the One Dexter experience. You will begin following your Dexter as early as practical. Where possible, this may be from birth. In other cases, your journey will begin as soon as a suitable animal has been selected and confirmed for you.

The intention is for the One Dexter experience to unfold over time, rather than simply discovering the identity of an animal once its beef is ready.

Customers choosing the One Dexter experience will know where their Dexter lives and grazes, how it is managed and cared for, what it is eating, the natural forage available to it, and any veterinary treatment it receives.

You will also get a window into the wider landscape around it, including some of the wildlife, habitats and seasonal changes associated with the land it grazes.

The aim is simple: nothing hidden, every intervention recorded.

Customers choosing the Whole Dexter option will receive a factual provenance record covering the same core information about how their animal was raised, but without the ongoing follow experience.

Customers who choose the One Dexter experience will normally receive an update at least once a week, including photos or video and a short note on how their Dexter is doing, where it is grazing and anything notable about its management.

You will also have dedicated direct WhatsApp or Messenger contact with the person managing your Dexter. Other members of your household can be included in the same conversation if you wish.

Updates can also be shared with children and other family members, providing a practical way to understand more about where beef comes from and how cattle are raised.

Customers who choose the Whole Dexter option, rather than the One Dexter experience, will receive full factual provenance and normal customer support, but not the ongoing weekly updates or dedicated direct chat.

Yes. Customers who choose the One Dexter experience will receive a private visit for themselves and their household to see their Dexter and explore the land on which it is being raised.

If you are visiting Cumbria at another time, you may also be able, by prior arrangement and when practical, to join a routine cattle check or grazing move. This might only be 30–60 minutes, but it gives you an opportunity to see the day-to-day management first-hand.

Travel, accommodation and other personal expenses are not included. All visits will be arranged around the practicalities of the cattle, land, weather and time of year.

Customers who choose the Whole Dexter option, rather than the One Dexter experience, do not receive a visit as part of that purchase.

Yes. For customers choosing the One Dexter experience, once a paid reservation has been confirmed, the total £3,500 price is locked in.

If beef prices or One Dexter’s production costs rise during the time your animal is growing and maturing, your agreed reservation price will not increase.

Any genuinely optional extras requested later and not included within the original reservation would be agreed separately.

This price-lock benefit applies specifically to the One Dexter experience.

Transparency is a baseline standard for every Dexter sold through the business.

Customers choosing the Whole Dexter option receive a factual provenance record covering the animal’s identity, pedigree, age, diet, management, grazing history, veterinary treatments and relevant slaughter and butchery information.

Customers choosing the One Dexter experience receive a much more detailed Lifetime Provenance Dossier, incorporating the animal’s factual record alongside selected photographs, milestones, seasonal notes and elements of the journey they have followed from reservation through to maturity.

Cattle supplied through both the One Dexter experience and the Whole Dexter option will live on a pasture-and-forage-only diet, grazing and browsing grasses, herbs, wildflowers, trees, scrub and other vegetation available across the land.

Hay or haylage may be provided when needed, particularly where seasonal conditions or animal welfare require additional forage.

The cattle will never be fed grain, cereal-based feed or conventional high-energy concentrates.

Not yet. However, Pasture for Life certification is intended to form part of the One Dexter production standard as the herd and business are established.

The production system is being designed around cattle nourished entirely from pasture and forage, including grasses and wildflowers, browse, hay and haylage. Grain and cereal-based feeds are strictly avoided.

One Dexter will only describe its beef as Pasture for Life certified once certification has formally been achieved.

One Dexter intends to participate in the Dexter Cattle Society’s Dexter Beef Certification Mark Scheme as the herd and business are established.

The scheme provides additional reassurance that qualifying beef comes from eligible registered or birth-notified Dexter cattle recorded with the Dexter Cattle Society.

The certification mark will only be used once the relevant membership, registration and compliance requirements are in place.

It is not currently certified organic.

One Dexter does, however, strongly align with organic principles. The aim is to manage both cattle and land in a nature-friendly way that supports biodiversity, while avoiding the routine use of synthetic chemicals on the land or animals wherever practical.

Organic certification may be considered as One Dexter develops.

One Dexter follows a low-intervention, nature-friendly approach to animal health. Dexters are a hardy breed, and the emphasis will be on good grazing, appropriate nutrition, low-stress management, close observation and preventative husbandry rather than routine medication.

Vaccines, antibiotics, antiparasitic treatments and other veterinary medicines will not be administered routinely or simply as a matter of course. If an animal becomes ill or injured and treatment is genuinely necessary for its health or welfare, appropriate care will never be withheld.

Any treatment will be fully recorded and disclosed. If a Dexter under an active One Dexter experience reservation requires medication and you are no longer comfortable continuing with that animal, your reservation can be transferred to another suitable Dexter.

In the highly unlikely event that a Dexter under an active One Dexter experience reservation dies unexpectedly or becomes unsuitable for the programme, your reservation will be transferred to another suitable animal.

The welfare of the cattle and the integrity of the One Dexter promise will always take priority over supplying beef from an animal that is no longer appropriate for the programme.

Following an individual animal over an extended period can naturally create a genuine sense of connection, and that connection is an important part of the One Dexter experience.

However, every Dexter offered through the experience is being raised for beef. This will be made clear before any reservation is made.

If you feel that becoming attached to an individual animal may make you uncomfortable with that animal ultimately being slaughtered for beef, then the One Dexter experience may not be the right option for you.

In that case, you may prefer our Whole Dexter option. The beef is raised to the same standards, with the same focus on welfare, pasture, provenance and transparency, but without the personal connection to one specific animal throughout its life.

If you do reserve a Dexter and later decide that you no longer wish to continue, your cancellation and refund rights will be governed by the terms provided before you make your reservation.

We understand that circumstances can change. Full cancellation and refund terms will be set out clearly before any paid One Dexter reservation is made, so you can review them before committing.

Because the One Dexter experience involves allocating a specific animal to you and providing an ongoing personalised service over an extended period, the amount refundable may depend on when you cancel and what has already been provided.

Any cancellation or refund rights provided by law will of course be respected. The full terms will explain exactly what happens if you decide not to continue with your reservation.

There is no fixed finishing date. As a guide, a Dexter that is raised outdoors year-round and entirely on pasture, browse, hay and haylage may be ready from around 24 to 30 months of age, although some animals may take longer.

Finishing will most likely take place in summer or autumn, when the animal has had the opportunity to build condition naturally on fresh forage through the growing season.

A Dexter will only be considered ready when it is properly finished, rather than being pushed to meet an artificial timetable.

The exact amount will vary from animal to animal, but as an initial guide we expect a finished Dexter to provide approximately 85–100 kg of packaged beef, depending on the size and condition of the animal and how it is butchered.

Customers choosing either the One Dexter experience or the Whole Dexter option receive the beef from the entire animal.

These figures are estimates rather than guaranteed weights, as final yield will naturally vary between individual cattle.

As a rough guide, the beef from one whole Dexter may require around 8–10 standard freezer drawers, or a small dedicated chest freezer.

The exact space required will depend on the final packaged weight, the cuts chosen and the dimensions of your freezer, so this should be treated as a practical guide rather than a guarantee.

Your Dexter will be professionally slaughtered, butchered, packed and prepared through approved facilities.

Because both the One Dexter experience and the Whole Dexter option involve one entire animal, you will have maximum practical flexibility over how the carcass is butchered and packed without having to reconcile your preferences with another customer.

Nationwide delivery of the finished beef is included in the price. Collection can also be arranged if preferred.

One Dexter is based in Cumbria, where the cattle will be raised and managed.

The exact grazing land may vary as the business develops, but the aim is for customers to understand where their animal has lived and grazed throughout its life.

Deliberately limited. The One Dexter experience is built around individually known animals and a small number of customers rather than high-volume beef production.

Each One Dexter reservation is for one entire animal and will not be divided between multiple customer households.

Only a limited number of One Dexter reservations will therefore be released each year. Existing One Dexter customers will also receive priority access to future One Dexter reservations.

The intention is to grow only at a pace that allows the transparency, direct relationship and individual attention at the heart of the One Dexter experience to be maintained.
